Anorexia & Bulimia Group Therapy
Through the years, the effectiveness of group therapy as an adjunct to individual work in our eating disordered clients has proven to be invaluable! Especially for individuals struggling with an eating disorder, the opportunity to connect with others who are experiencing similar emotions of shame, hopelessness, or fear of judgment is tremendously helpful.
Facilitated by experienced group psychotherapists who are skilled in utilizing an interpersonal group model to create a safe, supportive, healing group space where the development of reparative interpersonal skills, healthy communication, and effective coping skills are developed, is of great benefit to clients seeking full recovery from their eating disorder. Come experience the amazing benefit of group, within an atmosphere of encouragement, guidance, accountability, and support of others.
A New Beginning’s Eating Disorder Groups: Adults
Within a safe, supportive small group atmosphere, we work to identify and explore the many factors that contribute to eating disordered behavior and body image concerns. Utilizing an interpersonal group model, along with creative experiential techniques, each member is helped to understand and resolve personal issues contributing to their specific eating disorder.
The development of healthy emotional coping skills, effective conflict resolution, and the ability to embrace and work through strong emotions is emphasized. Issues of body image, poor self-esteem, and shame are also addressed in a gentle, yet effective, manner. Additionally, an abundance of psychoeducation is provided, directed toward helping group members fully understand how the development of healthy emotional skills is a necessary “bridge” that will ultimately allow them to completely let go of their unhealthy eating disorder coping behaviors. These processes allow for the eventual attainment of FULL recovery!
“Never did I think group therapy would be an option for me since I was so anxious sharing with others. The group was a huge and transformative part of my recovery.”
