Gastrointestinal Nutrition Testing

Gut Health with a Gastrointestinal GI-MAP

“Gut health” refers to how well the gastrointestinal tract is functioning, with specific attention given to the balance of helpful and unhelpful bacteria in the gut. Gut health influences how well the body can absorb nutrients from food, fight off illnesses, and communicate with the brain to promote overall health and wellbeing.

Restoring gut health is an important component to the eating disorder recovery process. As a result, A New Beginning is excited to partner with Diagnostic Solutions Laboratory to offer the innovative GI-MAP (Microbial Assay Plus) test, which provides detailed information about a person’s gut health.

After providing a stool sample, this test uses quantitative polymerase chain reaction to accurately identify and quantify bacterial and viral pathogens, find signs of gastrointestinal dysbiosis, possible immune triggers, and much more! The dietitian can then use this invaluable data to handcraft a more customized plan for nutrition restoration.

This technology is useful for people who are:

  • Recovering from eating disorders (Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder)
  • Experiencing digestive concerns, such as cramping, bloating, dysbiosis, nutrient malabsorption, and leaky gut
  • Seeking to optimize overall nutritional health
